Why visit Uçhisar Castle?
The castle is not built so much as hollowed: generations cut rooms, storage pits and connecting passages directly into a single enormous pinnacle of tuff, using it as a defensive refuge and lookout. From the summit the whole region reads at once — Pigeon Valley falling away to one side, the Göreme valleys to the other, and Mount Erciyes on the horizon on clear days. It is the best place in Cappadocia to understand the landscape’s shape rather than just photograph its details, and at sunrise it is the one viewpoint where you can see balloons launching across several valleys simultaneously.

How do I get to Uçhisar Castle from Cappadocia center?
Uçhisar is about 4km from Göreme. Dolmuş minibuses run frequently and take ten minutes, or it is a 45-minute walk uphill through Pigeon Valley if you would rather arrive on foot.
