The old harbor, still in active use for tour boats, dates in some form to Roman times, and the Yivli Minaret — a 13th-century Seljuk minaret with a distinctive fluted design — rises above the surrounding rooftops as the district’s most recognizable landmark. Unlike a museum district, Kaleiçi remains lived-in: residential courtyards sit alongside restaurants and shops, and much of the appeal is simply wandering the narrow lanes without a fixed itinerary.
